The result of a paternity test for courts and registry offices is an expert forensic report that can be used for legal purposes. It need not involve unpleasant court disputes — the most common uses are entering the biological father in a child's birth certificate, removing a non-biological father from it, or single mothers needing to name the father of their children in order to claim their rights. As mixed marriages become more common, expert reports are increasingly required by registry offices too. Such a report must be submitted when applying for Czech citizenship for a child born to a Czech father and a mother who is a citizen of a country outside the European Union.

A DNA test with an expert report requires the collection and analysis of the mother's DNA as well. In exceptional cases, however — for example when the mother is abroad and unable to attend in person — and where the father is named in the child's birth certificate, the report can be prepared without her. The identity of everyone whose sample is taken (father, mother and child) must be verified: validity of identity documents, a thumbprint from adults and photographs. The sample must therefore be taken in the presence of the court-appointed expert or an authorised person, at our premises in Prague 6. In special cases samples for an expert report can be taken elsewhere, in the Czech Republic or anywhere in the world. The standard turnaround for an expert report is 14 days, and shorter deadlines are possible.

How sampling works

Three things worth knowing before your visit.

Identity verification

Valid documents, a thumbprint from adults and photographs of everyone tested, at our premises in Prague 6.

What makes us different: By arrangement, sampling can be carried out almost anywhere in the world.

14-day turnaround

A standard expert report with samples from the father, mother and child is prepared within 14 days.

What makes us different: Shorter deadlines, in a matter of days, are also possible.

About 45 minutes

Taking the samples and verifying identities during your visit takes roughly three quarters of an hour.

What makes us different: We have appointment slots available practically every day.

A follow-up expert report

An expert report can also be prepared retrospectively for a paternity test with verified identity of everyone tested (father, mother and child) carried out earlier. This is useful if you are considering using the results for legal purposes in the future. This test also requires a visit to our premises — during your visit we verify the identity of everyone tested (validity of identity documents, a thumbprint from adults and photographs).

The result is a report containing the test identifiers (case number, sample numbers, identification details of those tested — name and birth number), a listing of the 17 DNA markers tested and a written evaluation of the result, including the probability with which paternity is confirmed or excluded. We deliver the result of this test within 5 working days.

Taking the DNA samples and verifying identities (your visit to us) takes about 45 minutes. You can book by phone, by e-mail, or through our online booking form.
